Chief Minister enhances upper class cinema tickets; Lower class tickets untouched


Giving away the Nandi film awards on Sunday, Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy at the request of film industry announced the hike of cinema tickets in the top bracket that are being sold at Rs.35 to Rs.50 while the lower tickets untouched as they were purchased by the poor. Speaking on the occasion, he also announced that the State Government would institute National Film Awards in memory of BN Reddy and B Nagireddy from the next year. The Chief Minister recalled the contribution of successive Congress Governments to the film industry since it shifted its base from Chennai to Hyderabad. He said that the Government is also scrapped the slab system on entertainment tax payable by Theatre owners.

The Nandi Awards for 2005 and 2006 went to Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu for Best Actors category while Trisha and Nandia Das for best actress, best film awards went to 'Pothe Poni' and 'Bommarillu' and for best directors went to Krishna Vamsi and Sekhar Kammula respectively. The Minister for Information and Cinematography, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy said that Nandi film awards for 2007 and 2008 would be presented before the elections.

The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy presented the NTR National Award to Krishna for 2003, Music Director, L Ilayaraja for 2004, Kannada actor Ambareesh for 2005 and Hindi film heroine, Waheeda Rehman for 2006. The Raghupati Venkaiah awards were given to filmmakers MS Reddy for 2005 and Dr. D.Rama Naidu for 2006. Each award carries a cash award of Rs.5 lakhs.
