Effort to persuade Manda Krishna fails
Hyderabad, May 2, 2008
The MRPS President Manda Krishna refused to call off the eight day old indefinite fast simply rejecting the government's assurances on the implementation of Usha Mehra Commission's report on Friday. He said that he was not fully convinced of the promise made by the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy after a meeting with the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in New Delhi that reservations for the SCs on the basis of A,B,C,D categories would be implemented from the coming academic year.
He said that he will call off the struggle only after an assurance from the Chief Minister that a Bill giving effect to SC categorization would be introduced in Parliament and reservations implemented from the current academic year. A delegation comprising of MLC D Rajeswara Rao and MRPS leaders Devaiah and R Satyam met the Minister for Municipal Administration, Koneru Ranga Rao twice in the day.
The minister said that the Madigas had won half of the battle with the Usha Mehra Commission giving a favorable recommendation. MRPS leaders though insisted on a more concrete assurance from the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the TDP leaders Kadiyam Srihari and T Srinivas Yadav visited the hunger strike camp.
