High Court grants time for Government to report on ACB cases

Takes a writ petition in regard to information sought under RTI Act

Hyderabad, March 8, 2008

Justice NV Ramana of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday granted time till Tuesday for the Government to submit information regarding senior officers against whom there were reports from the Anti Corruption Bureau.

The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Shafi Kujjaman, an IAS officer himself who approached the department under the Right to Information Act seeking names of officers who were proceeded against by the ACB and how the Government had dropped all action. When it was rejected, he filed an appeal before the Information Commission. The Government had said that would disclose information but it was not given.

The writ was filed questioning the non disclosure of information. On earlier occasion, the judge directed the government to file counter affidavit in this issue and adjourned the matter. On Friday, when there was no proper response the judge asked for the information by Tuesday.
