Among other things, OCTOPUS, within a few months of its existence, has already written to the Director Generals of Police of all States across the country seeking information on terrorist activities in their jurisdiction having direct or indirect link with Andhra Pradesh. Many DGPs have sent their feed back immediately. According to police sources, the OCTOPUS has also written to various departments like Passport Office, Transport, Civil Supplies, Electricity Board and Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board to built up their data to check whether addresses furnished by the public are actually genuine or not and whether foreigners were overstaying in the State.

Orders have been placed with AP Technological Services for procuring computers and other equipment and also to Police Transport Organization to procure a variety of vehicles to be used in the operations. Simultaneously, OCTOPUS has written to all Commissioners of Police and District Superintendents seeking information on frisking, checking operation undertaken by them and they have been asked to file monthly reports.

OCTOPUS has formed itself six teams and are scouting for all those personnel interested in working in the organization. The unit has shortlisted nearly 140 personnel who will be taken in the organization on attachment. They will be made to undergo an orientation programme which will take place shortly and then selected. Despite several shortage of manpower, OCTOPUS has taken off in an effective manner.
