Hyderabad, March 31, 2008

The revised train fares and concessions that were announced by Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad will come into effect from Tuesday. According to a release by South Central Railway said that the concessions included fifty percent to women and senior citizens, while make senior citizens will continue to get 30 percent.

The free monthly season ticket provision for students has been revised to girl students studying up to graduation instead of Class 12 at present and boys studying up to class 10 at present. Under the variable fare scheme, existing basic fares up to Rs.50 per passenger for on-suburban mail/express trains, including super fast trains and non-suburban ordinary passenger trains will be reduced by giving a discount of Rs.1 and fares beyond Rs.50 shall be reduced by including five percent. A/C first class fares will be reduced by about seven percent in the lean season and 3.5 percent during the peak season.

The release said the list of popular trains would be published from time to time. The revised fares will also apply to tickets issued in advance. Other concessions include 50 percent for AIDS patients who are undergoing anti-retroviral therapy at designated centres.
