Sale of Government lands rocks Assembly

23 TDP MLAs suspended

Hyderabad, March 3, 2008

The alleged sale of government lands rocked the State Assembly today resulting in the suspension of 23 Telugu Desam Party members for the day. TDP members stalled the business of the House during question hour demanding a debate on the sale of government lands.

Speaker, KR Suresh Reddy disallowed the notices for adjournment motion given by the TDP, CPM, CPI and BJP and Janata Party on three different issued. TDP and CPI wanted a debate on the sale of government lands and forcible alienation of government lands to private firms. The TDP members insisted on a debate while, the Speaker, KR Suresh Reddy assured them that the discussion would be taken up under another rule.

TDP member T Devender Goud demanded that the government put the auction of land on hold till the House discussed the land issue. Meanwhile, the Minister of Legislative Affairs, K Rosaiah said that the government was ready for discussion and requested the speaker to fix a time. Chief Whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged that the Opposition was politicizing the House Proceedings. Despite the repeated warnings to the TDP, he suspended for the day.
