Hyderabad, March 22, 2008The General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member Debabrata Biswas said on Saturday that the All India Forward Block that is part of the Left Front government in West Bengal with 24 MLAs, will contest in Andhra Pradesh. He was here to address the inaugural session of the CPI Congress on Sunday. He said that the party would like to enter the election fray in the State in alliance with other Left Parties.
Biswas said that the party had taken a stand not to oppose smaller States. It sought a commission to lay down a policy for concession of demands for formulation of States in various parts of the country. He warned that the Left Parties would fight tooth and nail against the nuclear deal with the United States.
Biswas further said that the Left would withdraw support to the UPA government if the latter went ahead with the deal. In that case, the government would be violating a commitment it had made in the Common Minimum programme to have an independent foreign policy.
