Bobbili all set to become next industrial destination

Nearly 200 units to be set up at the Growth Centre in over 1,000 acres

Vijayanagaram, March 21, 2008

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure corporation has projected Bobbili as the favorite destination after Visakhapatnam for establishing major and medium industries. Investment worth over Rs.2,000 crore has been pumped into the Growth Centre for setting up a steel plant, mini cement units, Ferro-Alloys and manganese ore plants. Nearly 200 units will be set up over 1,000 acres of land.

The Growth Centre would teem with life by 2010 as most of the units will be operational by then. Meanwhile, Rs.20 crore is being invested on infrastructure like roads, water supply, power transmission including a 33 KV sub station said the APIIC Zonal Manager. While 1,000 more acres would be acquired in the region in view of its industrial potential, the three ports viz., Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Kakinada along the industrial corridor between Srikakulam and Kakinada would a boon for the units.

Bobbili Growth Centre Development manager said that 240 industrial plots had been allotted in the region, while 10 industries are operational. Three of the major projects in the pipeline include BK Steels, Vizag Profiles and Ferro Alloys. This apart, the Growth Centre will employ 10,000 people directly and a few thousands indirectly through the ancillary industries.
