No User Development Fee for international passengers for 5 days
Hyderabad, March 20, 2008The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, which went into a limbo immediately after the inauguration by the UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi on March 14 will commence operations a minute past after midnight of March 22. The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., (GHIAL), promoters of the new airport received clearance for beginning commercial operations from the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.
This is in pursuance of clause 5.5 of the concession agreement signed between the Union Government and the GHIAL on December 20, 2004 and consequent to the commencement of operations, the existing airport at Begumpet would not be available for commercial operations by airline companies. The International Transport Association code for Hyderabad-HYD-for the existing Begumpet Airport would be transferred to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport from the date and time of the commercial operations.
The Airport authorities announced that there would be no user development fee on international passengers departing from Hyderabad for five days. The charges would be levied from March 28. There would be no fee for parking of cars for one week. Later, fee would be collected which would be the same as that of Begumpet Airport.
