TDP President decides on Harikrishna for Rajya Sabha Seat

Chandrababu Naidu sought the opinion of party leaders

Hyderabad, March 12, 2008

The Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu decided to give Rajya Sabha seat ticket to his brother in law N Harikrishna. He was seeking the opinion of senior party leaders by proposing the name of Harikrishna, none dared to say anything. By proposing Harikrishna's name, the TDP chief silenced the aspirants.

Former Rajya Sabha member K Rammohan Rao, former Telugu Mahila president Nannapaneni Rajakumari and TDP politburo members Y Ramakrishnudu and Umareddy Venkateswarulu were in the race. Soon after Chandrababu Naidu proposed the name of Harikrishna, Rammohana Rao left the Assembly premises in a huff. A dejected Rajakumari also left without speaking to the waiting media.

Six year term of four sitting Rajya Sabha members of the TDP will come to an end on April 9. But with the TDP having only 44 MLAs in the Assembly, it can win only one seat. The TDP will officially announce the name of Harikrishna in a day or two according to party sources. The last date for filing nominations is March 15 and elections would be held on March 26.
