AP Government names 6 IAS officers to High Court against

High Court gives two weeks time to submit complete

Hyderabad, March 11, 2008

The Andhra Pradesh High Court taking a serious view of the perfunctory manner in which the State Government had responded in submitting a list of IAS officers against whom the ACB found evidence that they had indulged in corruption. Justice NV Ramana of the AP High Court today directed the government to submit the full list within two weeks. The High Court made the observation after an IAS officer, Shafiq-uz-Zaman, filed a writ petition complaining that the government had not given him details sought about withdrawal of charges against IAS officer in the State.

It may be recalled that the ACB had submitted a report stating that a number of IAS officer had indulged in illegal activities and that the government had dropped charges against all of them. The High Court on Friday directed the government to give details today but the government submitted a report listing only six IAS officer's names viz., Sunil Katri, B Dhanam, Dr C Uma Malleswara Rao, Dr. Satyanarayana, MV Satyanarayana Rao and A Rama Lakshman.

The government stated that charges against these officers were dropped and that the other officer would be named after two weeks. Justice Ramana remarked that the attitude of government appears to be shielding erring officers. He said there was no reason why they should be delay in submission of the list.
