Expresses his fear at a meeting organized by Jana Chaitanya Vedika
Hyderabad, June 29, 2008
The Editor of Andhra Jyothi, K Srinivas, participating in a meeting organized by Jana Chaitanya Vedika on Friday expressed fears that he could be arrested by police again as it was still open on the State Government to proceed with the case against him for publication of an article by his daily that allegedly showed leaders of weaker sections in poor light.
Srinivas who was released from Chanchalguda jail on bail said that the Government tried to derive sadistic pleasure by booking him in two cases under provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. It selectively acted against a newspaper that it did not like. He said that the Government was keen to pit the MRPS, the petitioner in the cases against Andhra Jyothi just as Congress MP V Arun Kumar was engaged against the Eenadu group.
Meanwhile, Andhra Bhoomi Editor MVR Sastry regretted that casteism had penetrated into the newspaper industry. The media personnel were divided on caste lines when attacks on a news organization took place. Former Editor, P Venkateswara Rao said the incidents reflected a clash between two assumed immunities. The media believed it was immune to scrutiny for whatever it published and the attackers felt they were immune to protests for their actions.
