Eight persons surrender in attack on Andhra Jyoti office case

All surrendered people are from Hyderabad city

Hyderabad, June 2, 2008

Eight activists of MRPS surrendered before the Jubilee Hills police here on Monday in connection with the case of attack on Andhra Jyoti Daily.

Speaking to media, the Inspector, B Limba Reddy said that the surrendered persons would be questioned and produced before the court after gathering evidence. He said a case under sections 307, 147, 148, 149, 427 and 436 of IPC was registered following the attack on the office at Jubilee Hills a week ago. All the surrendered persons are from the city, he added.

Speaking to press persons, they said that they were annoyed over the report published by the daily. The attack was nothing compared to the damaging report, they maintained and urged the newspaper management to tender an apology. Meanwhile, the police said that the investigation into the case registered against the Managing Director of the newspaper, the editor and a reporter under the SC and ST Act had commenced. The case was registered following a complaint lodged by the MRPS activist accusing the daily management abusing them in the name of caste.
