Hyderabad, January 4, 2008

The State Cabinet that met on Friday gave green signal to Collectors to go ahead with the proposal to appoint 6,237 Village Revenue Officers in the State. At a meeting here on Friday, the Cabinet also cleared the proposal for recruitment of 55 teaching and non teaching employees for the up-coming Nalgonda and Telangana universities and 470 engineers for AP Genco and 182 other for the AP Southern Power Distribution Company.

Speaking to media, the Information Minister A Ramanaryan Reddy said that the State as a whole required 17,008 Village Revenue Officers after the revamp of the village administrative system, but 10,771 had already been appointed. The remaining 6,237 VROs would be appointed now with the opportunity being open to nominees of the erstwhile village officers and village servants.

By recruiting the VROs there is an additional burden of Rs.44.6 crore on the State Exchequer. He further said that one VRO would be appointed for a village less than 5,000 population at the minimum level and a maximum seven VROs for a selection grade Municipalities. In the case of Hyderabad Corporation, there would be one VRO for each division.
