The Chairman of the Legislative Council, A Chakarapani appealed to President Pratiba Patil to consider establishment of Supreme Court bench in the South preferably in Hyderabad and also two separate AP High Court in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.

Speaking to media after submitting a memorandum to the President on Friday, he said that the setting up of two benches of the High Court was long standing demand. He reminded that several States had additional High Court benches like the Madurai Bench in Tamil Nadu, Dharwad Bench in Karnataka, Nagpur and Aurangabad benches in Maharashtra, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur benches in MP.

He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh was the largest State in the South. He pleaded with the President to establish a bench of the Apex Court in Hyderabad considering the the time taken for litigant public residing in the South to travel all the way to New Delhi and fight cases.
