Hyderabad, January 23, 2008
On Wednesday, the police arrested CPI State secretary K Narayana, MP Aziz Pasha and several others when they tried to storm into the New Hafeezpet lands under Miyapur police station limits as part of the Party’s Bhu Poratam.
The party activists had forcibly occupied the New Hafeezpet lands three days ago and erected huts. However, the police moved in later to remove the make shit structure.
The activists led by K Narayana protesting against this tried to force their way into the lands, but were blocked by the police. Intense arguments ensued forcing the police to take the leader and activist into custody. Narayana alleged that the government and the police were supporting land mafia while foisting cases against the landless poor and vowed to continue the agitation.
