Adilabad, January 11, 2008The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy will lay a foundation stone for an International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at the temple town of Basar in Adilabad on January 12, 2008. The IIIT that come up in a 150 acre area at a cost of Rs.150 crores and will admit students from the next academic year 2008-09. The land has already acquired and Rs.10 crore has been released for the purpose in the Phase I.
The Indian Institute of Technology was envisaged at Basar but the location was laster shifted to Kandi in Medak district. Protesting against shifting, an all party IIT Sadhana Samithi was formed to spearhead a long drawn agitation. Widespread protests were organized in North Telangana districts. The high point of the agitation on the National Highway 7 and similar protests continued for over more than three months but of no vain.
The State Government had recently announced the setting up of three IIITs in the state each at a cost of Rs.150 crore . They would be set up in Idupulapaya of Kadapa district, Nuzvid in Krishna District and Basar in Adilabad district. The government had envisaged that three institutions will admit nearly 500 students form the coming academic year.
