Panguluru bags State title consecutively for 14 years
Prakasam, January 10, 2008Panguluru, a small village in Prakasam is all set to catapult itself on to the sports map of the country by hosting the National Under 19 Kho-Kho Tournament from January 11 to 14. The village has the distinction of bagging the state Kho-Kho title consecutively for the last 14 years.
The tournament, to be organized under the aegies of Schools Games Federation of India, is being held with the participation of 39 teams from all state, union territories and universities. The Tournament Chairman and former Addanki MLA B Ch Garataiah said that 900 sportsmen, 300 coaches and other sports personnel would attend the meet. He said that four courts have been prepared on war footing. Accommodation and other facilities are being arranged at the venue.
Near 20 chefs were requisitioned from North India to prepare North Indian cuisine. He said all measures were taken to make the players feel at home. A special committee, headed by district sports officer Durga Prasad, was set up that the tournament is held smoothly. The residents of Panguluru are preparing themselves to accord a warm welcome to the players coming across the country.
