State Cabinet takes decision on Friday
Hyderabad, February 8, 2008The State Cabinet on Friday decided to regularize all illegally occupied government/revenue lands in urban areas in the State as on December 31, 2003 subject to a maximum of 2,000 square yards in a case, on payment of basic market value plus some additional amount. This will however, will be done free of cost upto 80 square yards if found occupied and used as house site by the poor coming under the Government definition of the below poverty line.
It may be recalled that this is the second time in the recent times that the offer was made to regularize occupation of urban lands. The Government had made the offer in 1995, specifying 1990 as the cut off year and without imposing any upper limit on the extent of regularization and later it was scrapped. The State Cabinet adopted a resolution on the suggestion of the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy to collect heavy amounts to regularize lands.
Families found in illegal possession of urban lands would be divided into five categories based on the extent of occupation for regularization. The families above the poverty line possessing up to 80 sq.yards, grouped as the first category would have to pay basic market value plus one fourths of the amount additionally for regularization. Like wise, the total payment would be basic market value and a half of the amount in case of occupation of 80 to 200 sq.yards and 201 to 500 sq.yards, basic market value plus 1.25 times the amount. If the extent was 501 to 1000 sq.yards, the extra amount payable would be one and half times of the basic market value along with Basic Market Value. According to a spokesperson, who made it clear that the decision would not apply to illegal occupation of Endowments and Wakf lands.
