Karat asks its cadre to begin efforts for Third Front
Hyderabad, February 8, 2008Addressing the party delegates today after inaugurating the 22nd State convention of CPM here, party’s General Secretary Prakash Karat made it clear that the party is seriously considering creating a third political alternative to Congress and BJP. He advised the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh against pursuing the pro-US policies.
The CPM top leader criticized the UPA government and the BJP for their economical and political policies besides opting for strategic alliance with US. He said that the CPM was successfully prevent the UPA government for nearly four years from implementing new economic and liberalization policies. He claimed that it was due to the Left parties that the UPA government did not dare to introduce Bill in the Parliament, which would have allowed foreign direct investment in banking and Insurance Sectors.
He said that the agriculture sector in neck deep in crisis and the situation was no different in other sectors. Over 17000 farmers’ committed suicide in 2006 alone. Health, Education, employment and housing have become areas of serious concern. As a fraternal delegate, CPI state secretary, K Narayana attended the inaugural session. CPM State secretary BV Raghavulu, other senior leaders, and over 700 delegates attended the inaugural session of the three-day conference.
