State Government decides to handover the case to CBI
Hyderabad, February 5, 2008
The State Government has decided to handover the murder case of Syeda Ayesha Meera in a women’s hostel in Vijayawada to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Chief Minister who is in Delhi has directed the Director General of Police, SSP Yadav to write to the CBI to investigate into the murder of Ayesha in Ibrahimpatnam in Vijayawada on December 27. The Government following a representation by Congress MP V Balashowry took the decision.
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that he found that a CBI probe into the sensitive issue was appropriate since the TDP was trying to politicize the murder by attributing it to the relative of a senior Minister. He also took into the consideration of various organizations claiming that Vijayawada police are handling the case in pace manner.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister announced the CBI probe into the murder, the day’s developments were marked by protests against the alleged police harassment by the residents of Ibrahimpatnam and Congress MLA Devineni Rajasekhar announcing a reward of Rs.2 lakh to any person who provides information to police or the media about the killers of Ayesha.
