The Kingpin of the multi crore fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Karim Telgi was today produced in the Special Court for CBI cases located at the Nampally Criminal Courts complex. This is the first time that he was produced in a Hyderabad Court after the scam broke out. The Magistrate posted the hearing to February 20 and ordered judicial custody. He was taken away to Yerawada Jail in Pune.

The police brought him from Yerawada was escorted into the court complex amid tight security. Security personnel from Maharastra and Hyderabad police were there in tow and even the Central Bureau of Investigation who arrived here from New Delhi were present. According to police sources said that since this was his first hearing in a city court, his physical presence was mandatory. Subsequent hearings will be conducted through video-conferencing. The SIT comprising of CID officials was formed and with the scam spreading across several states, the case was subsequently handed over to the CBI. He was already convicted by the special courts at Mumbai and Chennai.

Several senior IPS officers and politicos from Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh and other States are also alleged to have colluded with Telgi and most of them, including a former minister C Krishna Yadav and IPS officer K Narasimha Rao had been arrested in the State.
