19 TDP MLAs suspended in Legislature

MLA Dayakara Rao suspended for five days

Hyderabad, February 25, 2008

Telugu Desam Party MLAs numbering 19, were suspended from the Legislative Assembly for a day for disrupting the proceeding the House over the issue of facilities in social welfare hostels on Monday. TDLP secretary, E Dayakara Rao was suspended for five days. The debate over the lack of proper amenities led to a heated arguments between the Treasury benches and the Opposition criticizing the government for announcing sops to the hostels with an eye on elections.

TDLP Deputy leader T Devender Goud was expressing concern over the plight of hostel inmates, Dayakara Rao began criticizing the government in a voice, which the Chief Minister Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy described earlier as 'not so dignified'. Speaker, KR Suresh Reddy appealed the members to maintain decorum and allowing the proceedings to continue, but the TDLP secretary was unrelenting. The irrigated Speaker named the members and sought his suspension.

The Legislative Assembly Minister K Rosaiah was moving the motion to suspend Dayakara Rao for five days, the TDP members rushed to the podium opposing the move. This prompted the minister to move the motion suspending them for the day and marshals were summoned for bodily lifting the members who refused the House. The State Government has decided to take up modernization of social welfare hostels on a war footing to ensure that basic infrastructure facilities are put in place before the commencement of the next academic year.
