Remarks made by Commercial Taxes Minister taken serious

Vijayanagaram, February 25, 2008

Supporters of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today organized a bandh in Narsipatnam in support of Narsipatnam MLA Ch. Ayyannapatrudu in protest against the high handed behavior of Commercial Taxes Minister, Konathala Ramakrishna. He along with his activists demonstrated before the Narsipatnam police station and raised slogans denouncing the Minister. Tension prevailed for some time before the police tried to disperse the crowds in view of the Section 144 which was clamped in the town.

The activists later went around the town forcing the traders to shut down their shops. All commercial establishments were closed for the day while government offices functioned normally. However, no arrests were made in this connection.

The MLA said that he had not received any information from the Speaker. There was no response from the government on his resignation. He expressed that he was pained the way in which the Congress Government is treating the senior legislators. TDP District president Bandaru Satyanarayana Murty said he would meet the MLA and decide the future course of action.
