Chief Minister alleges conspiracy to defame the MP
Hyderabad, February 25, 2008In a bid to put at rest the raging controversy over MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar's remarks in Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation about Dr. BR Ambedkar that rocked the Houses of the State Legislature. Arun Kumar stated in Delhi that his observations had hurt the sentiments of the Dalits leading to widespread protests. He tendered an unconditional apology to dalits if he had hurted the sentiments. Seeking the pardon of Dalits, he said that he held the Dalits in high esteem and it was due to their support that he was elected to Parliament from Rajahmundry.
The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy, in a suo motu statement in the Assembly sought to defend Arun Kumar against the Opposition's attack and he even offered to order an inquiry into the matter by a judge, Dalit leaders,State Human Rights Commission or Scheduled Castes Commission, depending upon the choice of the Opposition.
The Chief Minister alleged that two Telugu dailies, that were pro TDP and a private channel had deliberately distorted the MP's remarks on Saturday. He added that this was a conspiracy aimed at maligning Arun Kumar as he had exposed irregularities to the tune of nearly Rs.3,000 crore owned by media baron Ch.Ramoji Rao. He said that the TDP is trying to politicize the non-issue with an ulterior motive. He pointed out that the meeting took place at 1.30pm, a TV Channel telecast the news at 8pm indicates that a lot of back door work had done into the decision.
