MLA Ayyanna Patrudu submits resignation

Says he is dissatisfied with the way police behaved

Hyderabad, February 24, 2008

Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Narsipatnam Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu submitted his resignation for today. Sources say the decision to submit the resignation for his MLA position is taken after he is dissatisfied with the behavior of the police. Stung by the alleged insults heaped on him by the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna, the Narsipatnam MLA Ch. Ayyannapatrudu today resided from the Legislative Assembly.

At a meeting on the Phase III of the Indiramma Housing Scheme, Ayyannapatrudu angered by Minister for Commercial Taxes K Ramakrishna's explanation on allotment of houses under the Indiramma housing scheme, he staged a walk out at a review meeting. On knowing that compensation issue for acquition of lands from farmers of Makavaripalem for setting up an alumina refinery was being discussed, he went in again and insisted on compensation o;f not less then Rs.8 lakh for an acre. When his suggestion was turned down, he again staged a walk out and squatted on the road along with his supporters.

The police tried to resort to mild force to clear the road and in the melee that followed. TDP members alleged misbehavior by the police. Ayyannapatrudu speaking to media said that the police manhandled him and in protest against violation of his privileges, he had faxed resignation to the Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy and forwarded a copy to the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.
