Bihar Governor RS Gavai says Ambedkar philosophy is still relevant

Refers Eashwai Bai as a symbol of revolt against injustice

Hyderabad, February 24, 2008

The Bihar Governor RS Gavai has said that the philosophy of the architect of Constitution Dr. BR Ambedkar is relevant even today as it addresses the core issues facing the country. She was recalling the famous quotation of Ambedkar, 'We are Indians first and Indians last', she said at a meeting here on Sunday.

She was addressing a meeting to mark the 16th death anniversary of former president of Republican Party of India J Eashwari Bai here. She referred Eashwari Bai as a symbol of revolt against injustice.

Governor, ND Tiwari said a unique feature of Indian democracy is that it was controlled. Rajya Sabha Member N Yellaiah said Eashwari Bai was known for her powerful speeches in the separate Telangana agitation of sixties. Major Industries Minister and daughter of Eashwari Bai, J Geeta Reddy said gold medals in her mother's memory were instituted for toppers in Political Science at the Osmania University.
