Hyderabad, February 12, 2008

The Minister for Agriculture, N Raghuveera Reddy on Tuesday directed the Agriculture department officials in six districts to assess the damage to the standing crops from the untimely rains. At a teleconference with the State and district level Agriculture Department officials, the Minister promised to extend all possible help to the farmers who suffered due to the rains.

Agricultural Department officials informed the Minister that 1.33 lakh hectares of standing crop was submerged due to heavy rains that lashed Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore district.

The Minister directed officials to tour the affected areas and assess the damage so that the Government could extend assistance. He assured the farmers that the government had taken note of their sufferings and would not hesitate to provide help.
