Opposition plans to corner the State Government

Hyderabad, February 10, 2008

The crucial budget session of the State Legislative Assembly beginning from Monday expected to be a stormy affair with a determined Opposition deciding to join hands to corner the Government on various issues. The Session will begin with an address by Governor ND Tiwari at 11am on Monday. The Assembly scheduled to meet for 46 days.

Finance Minister, K Rosaiah would present the last full-fledged budget of the Congress Government on February 16. The main Opposition TDP has decided to raise at least 75 issues but the focus would be on the alleged corruption in irrigation projects. The party would highlight the allegations leveled by Congress MP Harirama Jogaiah. The TRS is championing the cause of separate State is expected to take its fight to new heights by submitting the resignation letter of the 16 party MLAs to the Speaker on March 6, if the UPA government fails to set in motion the process of creating a separate Telangana State.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy in an open letter on Sunday threw a challenge to the Opposition parties to debate the corruption issue in the House. CPI (M) secretary, BV Raghavulu said that the three day State Congress had directed the party MLAs to raise issues like distribution of government lands to the poor.
