Congress rivals believed to be behind the killing


A Telugu Desam Party activist, Ramamurthy was hacked to death allegedly by Congress rivals in the old town area on Monday evening. The deceased was an eyewitness to his brother's murder. Two other persons were also injured in the attack.

Police sources says that the family members of the deceased was an eyewitness to his elder brother Ramanajanyulu's murder on April 22, 2006 allegedly by Shankar and his group. Ramanjaneyulu was a former councilor of the TDP and had differences with Shankar, a Congress activist of the same area over financial dealings and private settlements.

The deceased along with his friend went to the house of another friend of the former, Sreeramulu's son Chandrasekhar who had organized a puja and was allegedly attacked by Shankar's son Ramesh and eight others with hunting sickles when was coming out of Sreeramulu's house. As he was repeatedly hacked on the hand, arms and other parts of the body by assailants he died on the spot. Sriramulu and his wife who tried to save him were also attacked.
