Kingfisher flights delayed by three hours after bird hits flight propeller

Take off aborted; All passengers safe

Vijayawada, August 8, 2008

The departure of Hyderabad bound Kingfisher flight from Gannavaram Airport was delayed by three hours on Friday, when a pariah kite hit its propeller during the flight's attempt to take off. According to Airport officials, the flight was taking on the runway for the take off.

The take off was aborted and the aircraft subjected to technical tests to confirm that it could safely resume its journey. The flight finally took off at 3pm. Due to the rescheduling, the flight left with just 25 passengers out of the original number of 58. Sources say the remaining passengers opted to use other mode of transport.

The airport official said that this was not the first time that bird hit was experienced at the airport. Though the AAI personnel use firecrackers and other methods to scare the birds, continuous dumping of flood items into the open space of the airport abutting the National Highway is attracting birds.
