TDP plans to move no-confidence motion against Speaker

Karanam suspension likely

Hyderabad, August 25, 2008

The privileges committee of the Assembly that inquired into a complaint against Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from Addanki - Karanam Bal Ramakrishna Murty for allegedly making disparaging remarks against the Speaker, KR Suresh Reddy will submit its report to the House on Tuesday.

The Committee, which has taken serious note of the comments, is likely to recommend suspension of the member for six months from the House according to available information. The submission of the report and the likely suspension of the MLA could lead to a showdown between the Congress and TDP members.

Anticipating action against a party MLA, the TDP Legislature Party that met on Monday reportedly decided to move a no confidence motion against the Speaker. It may be recalled that he had displayed a video of the proceedings and had made the remarks against the Speaker during a campaign launched by the party that aimed at informing people that Chandrababu Naidu had not made any derogaratory remarks against the Speaker. The Congress Legislators took objection to the comments and the issue was referred to the privileges committee.
