To benefit 13.45 lakh government employees

Hyderabad, April 3, 2008

Nearly 13.45 lakh employees of the State Government, Local bodies and pensioners, and employees in other categories will get a windfall in the form of enhancement of dearness allowance. The DA would be equivalent to 5.652 percent of their basic pay with effect from January 1, 2008. The hike due to them in the form of arrears till March 31 would be credited to their respective GPF accounts.

The State Cabinet that met here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy cleared the proposal to this effect. The hike will be applicable to State Government employees, full time contingent employees, those of local bodies, aided institutions, universities drawing pay at 2005 pay scales and State Government pensioners. There would be an ad hoc increase of Rs.50 per month for part time assistants and village servants from January 1.

The total financial burden on the State Government on account of enhancement of dearness allowance would be Rs.726.77 crore per annum said the Minister for Information and Public Relations, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy while speaking to media.
