By polls for 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats shortly
Hyderabad, April 1, 2008
The chief Electoral Officer, IV Subba Rao will leave for New Delhi on Thursday to meet the Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami to brief the preparedness of the election machinery in the State to conduct by polls to 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats.
The CEO is expected to discuss with the Election Commission on the measure that need to be initiated before it announces the date of notification and also to provide feedback on the law and order problems likely to be encountered in what are being considered as mini-general elections. It may be recalled that 16 out of 18 Assembly seats and four Lok Sabha seats fell vacant following the resignation of sitting members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi recently. The rest of the two fell vacant following the deaths of P Janardhana Reddy and T Jayaprakash.
Work relating to the preparation of photo-electoral rolls, containing photo of the voter against his/her name, reached a crucial stage. There are nearly 5.45 crore voters in the State. This will be the first time that elections will be held in the State with the help of photo-electoral rolls.
