Hyderabad, September 8, 2007

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy visited former Chief Minister N Janardhana Reddy and his wife N Rajyalakashmi at their residence on Saturday and inquired about the incident. Speaking to media after calling them, he said that the 50-year old police system needed major reform. He called for steps to prevent youth from getting attracted towards extremism and terrorism.

The Chief Minister said that usually, whenever Janardhana Reddy go, security men used to check and recheck everything beforehand to ensure his safety but the they failed to do so the day on which the attack was took place.

He said that the Government is prepared to hold talks with Maoists provided they lay down weapons, he reiterated. Janardhana Reddy and his wife Rajyalakashmi offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara Swamy at Tirupati on Saturday morning for saving their lives from the Maoist attack. They were accorded warm welcome by the TTD officials.
