Memo served on landmine blast incident on Janardhan Reddy and his wife
Hyderabad, September 8, 2007
The Director General of Police, MA Basith served a memo to the Superintendent of Police of Nellore, Lakshmi Reddy for dereliction of duty, a day after the Naxal attack on the former Chief Minister N Janardhana Reddy even as investigating agencies identified three Maoists who triggered the deadly landmine. He has taken the decision after briefing the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy about the lapse on the part of the Nellore police ignoring the basic rules of policing on the part of Nellore police on the eve of the visit of Janardhana Reddy, a 'Z' category protectee. Sources said, Nellore police did not take up route clearing operations, a must during the visit of a 'Z' category protectee. They failed to search villages on the eve of the VIP's visit.
The DGP took a serious note on the incident, as the intelligence wing sounded ten days ago on the possible attack by Maoists. However, the SP reportedly said that no such alert was issued and the police would have been more cautious had the movements of naxals been reported in the district. The investigating agencies identified at least three of an eight member special action team who are believed to have carried the operation.
Sources confirmed the involvement of Ch Niranjan. They are also suspecting the involvement of another top Naxalite P Sudhakar Reddy whose name figured in almost all the major actions including the Alipiri attack on the former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu.
