Criminal cases registered against three police cops

Hyderabad, September 26, 2007

According to the DCP (Crime) E Damodar of Cyberabad, Criminal cases were registered on Tuesday against four Cyberabad CCS police personnel, including an Inspector for illegally detaining two youths. Inspector Gandhinarayana, Sub Inspector Narasimha Rao and Head Constables Ravinder Reddy and Jagdishwar Reddy were booked for wrongful confinement and extortion.

According to sources, Ravi Shankar Reddy and Ashok Reddy, sons of a realtor Panduranga Reddy were picked up by the CCS police last month to interrogate them to glean information on chain snatcher, Muthyam Reddy, a close associate of their father. They were subjected to torture and the CCS personal are also believed to have taken Rs. 4 lakhs in return for Ravi Shekar's release. By that time, his condition had turned to be serious and he had to be hospitalized. Despite this, the police began to demand another Rs. 1 lakh for his release.

At this juncture, Panduranga Reddy approached an electronic media channel and exposed the acts of CCS police personnel. Later a complain was lodged and rattled by the developments, they released Ashok. The case is under investigation.
