Great relief to the police and public with no untoward incident reported
Hyderabad, September 25, 2007
Despite rains, the Ganesh immersion program in the twin-cities went on till late in the night without any untoward incident. With this, people and police had sighed great relief. The processions in various parts of the twin cities began early in the morning to the accompaniment of drums of beats, chants of Ganapati and devotees pouring into the streets along with children. Processions from different corners leading to Hussainsagar went as an elaborate affair with dancers in the middle flanked by crowds on both sides. However, the number of people participating in the procession is much less than last year.
Thousands of idols of the elephant headed God in different avatars, sizes and shapes were immersed in Hussain Sagar. Nearly 25 to 30 cranes were pressed into service by the Irrigation department for the purpose. Since morning, a batter of policemen, anti-sabotage teams, Task Force officials and Rapid Action Force and CRPF personnels virtually threw a security blanket across the old city. Helicopters made several sorties to catch a bird's eye view of the had and tail end of the procession.
Speaking to media, the Police Commissioner, Balwinder Singh said that the procession was smooth without a single incident. The police deployed 30 anti sabotage teams and each inch of the road was checked.
