Testing time for Government and Police in view of intelligence alerts

Hyderabad, September 24, 2007

The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the arrangements at a high level meeting with the Home Minister, K Jana Reddy, Director General of Police, MA Basith and City Police Commissioner, Balwinder Singh. The Ganesh immesion program in Hyderabad will be a testing time for both the Government and Police Department in view of Intelligence Bureau alerts. The Hyderabad and Cyberabad duo had nearly 26,000 police personnel positioned. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has placed its personnel and near 50-odd cranes at the Hussain Sagar.

The Home Minister, Rosaiah said that the Government had directed the electricity, water works, roads and buildings and medical and health departments and all the hospitals in the city be on an alert to meet any any emergency situation if arises. For the first time, the entire procession will be under the electronic surveillance and video cameras have been set up at strategic points. Television channels too are deploying their live camera broadcast from multiple locations. Movement of each and every vehicle carrying the idols will be closely monitored.

At a press conference, Balwinder Singh said that every inch of the road leading from old city to the Hussain Sagar is being checked for the last four days by anti sabotage teams. He stated that wherever possible, the Police Department is trying to maintain separate lanes for emergency vehicles and assured the people that the festival will pass off peacefully and not to believe in rumors.
