Police places 40 odd bomb disposal squad at every two to three kilometers

Hyderabad, September 23, 2007

The police have been putting all security efforts for a smooth Ganesh Immersion to be held on September 25. For the first time, the police have decided to check each and every small Ganesh Idol on way to Hussain Sagar. According to a police officials, the police suggested that people from various localities who do not wish to travel all the way to the Hussain Sagar, give away their idols to be immersed alongside the bigger ones. The police are not even leaving a chance of ignoring smaller idols by ensuring that a proper check be done even to them. Police say that a small idol too could cause enough problem as it can fit a bomb or explosives of smaller quantities.

The police authorities have chalked out multi layered security components and providing bomb disposal squads every two to three kilometers along the 40 kilometers stretch from Balapur to Hussain Sagar. The tams have begun checking roads, culverts, dust bins and construction sites en route. The police have deployed nearly 40 bomb disposal squad through the main route. Plainclothes police personnel will also be moving along the route.

In addition to the 9,000 city police, nearly 15,000 personnel including forces from nearby districts and paramilitary forces are being deployed, according to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Coordination) NV Surendra Babu. He said that major pandals and mosques have already been provided with door frame metal detectors and thorough fishing is going on. Police are extremely cautious particularly in the wake of a recent anonymous letter to DCP and general alert by Intelligence.
