Letter states bomb blast planed for Ganesh Immersion Day

Hyderabad, September 21, 2007

An anonymous letter received by the Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday has put the entire police into a dizzy. The unsigned letter said bomb blasts are going to take place on September 25, the day of Lord Ganesh Immersion.

The letter, written in English, said that one, Javed, and ten others had carried out the August 25 twin blasts in the city. The letter further mentioned another name Zakir against whom a case was registered a few years ago in Saifabad police station on the charges of possessing weapons illegally. It also states that he received Rs. 50 lakhs for triggering the blasts and his son, Javed played a key role.

The letter further stated that the September 25 bomb blasts will take place at Bhagyalaxmi Temple, another temple at Chaderghat cross roads, the temple just opposite the City Police Commissioner's office at Basheerbagh and also a few places.

With this information on one side and the CID police's 'general' warning about possible unrest in the twin-cities, the police began to take security arrangements even more serious.
