AP High Court stays work on multiplexes in Visakhapatnam

High Court directs District Judge to submit a report within fortnight

Hyderabad, September 20, 2007

Basing on a writ petition filed by the Fisherman Youth Welfare Association of Visakhapatnam, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices Bilal Nazki and Ramesh Ranganathan on Thursday directed the Sea Valley Resorts from constructing six multi complexes and 11 storeyed building on the RK Beach in Visakhapatnam.

The Bench also directed the District Judge to visit the construction site, take measurements of the constructions carried out by the developer and submit a report within two weeks to the High Court. The petitioner complained that the developer had violated the rules by taking up the project as he neither obtained permission from the Coastal Regulatory Zone officials nor got the Environment Impact Assessment report from the Central Government.

Interestingly, the management of the resorts that claimed earlier had obtained all necessary permissions on Thursday admitted that they had none of them and would not go ahead with the work till necessary clearances were secured.
