Lanco, Emaar properties and others directed not to take construction work
Hyderabad, September 20, 2007
In a surprise development, the Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice V Eswaraiah on Thursday granted an interim stay and directed the Lanco group, Emaar Properties and other firms not to take up any construction work on the 1,600 acres at Manikonda village which were alienated to them by the State Government.
The direction was given basing on a miscellaneous petition filed by TRS leader and Member of Legislative Council HA Rehman. He complained that the said lands are Wakf properties belonging to Dargah Hazarat Shah Hussain Wali. The petitioner claimed that the erstwhile Telugu Desam Party Government submitted a report to the Court that the lands were Wakf properties and allotting them to various multinational companies like Microsoft and Wipro was illegal. The ruling party that came to power in 2004 allotted them without considering the report, he said.
The Judge while passing the orders said that the prima facie it was not open to the State Government to dispute the said properties do not belong to the Dargah.
