Says state adopting back door methods to tax people
Hyderabad, September 2, 2007The CPI(M) State committee has demanded the Government to withdraw its move to hike property tax for non-residential structures in urban areas. The people are already burdened by the steep increase in registration, development and other charges and the decision to hike property taxes will further burden them.
The CPI(M) wanted the Government to scrap the order GO 634 and said that though the order covered only non residential buildings, the government will extend it to other buildings at a later date.
In a statement, CPI (M) State Secretary BV Raghavulu criticized the government for adopting back door methods to tax people. He said that the elected local bodies were not consulted before announcing the decision to lift the ceiling on the property and other taxes to facilitate hikes.
