Secretariat Staff attends to works immediately
Hyderabad, September 18, 2007
Smoke in the mini-conference hall in the Sixth Floor of C Block at the Secretariat has caused some panic. The smoke was noticed by none other than the Chief Minister who alerted the Secretariat staff and left for his camp office. Power to the building is temporarily cut off when sparks and smoke came out all of a sudden. The incident happened at about 10:30 AM. The Chief Minister is in the office at the time of the incident. He is actually supposed to leave for Cuddapah, Prakasam and Nellore district visit but had to stop following adverse weather conditions in the region.
The Secretariat staff along with the Chief Engineer R&B and In-charge of Secretariat buildings along with other staff immediately attended to find the two and half-year old condenser of a compact florescent light (CFL) fitting as the reason and have replaced the entire fitting. Sources say that old wiring and increase of power consumption in the building is often leading to short circuit at many rooms in the building in recent times.
The Chief Minister returned to the office in the evening and attended to his work as usual.
