Asks Government to take steps to control elephant attacks
Vijayanagaram, September 13, 2007
Member of Legislative Council, MVS Sarma, on Thursday demanded the Government to pay a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs each to the kin of those killed in the elephant attach in Gummalakshmipuram mandal in the recent past. The Government had earlier announced a Rs. 1 lakh each to the kin of the victims.
Sarma commented that the Government is not taking steps to keep the pachyderms at bay and the elephants are still straying into the villages in Gummalakshmipuram and Kurupam mandals.
He demanded the Government to pay compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged by elephants and to construct compound walls for schools in Kurupam village which was frequently raided by elephants.
