Government to provide financial assistance for Gulf returnees
Hyderabad, September 13, 2007
A five member delegation led by the Minister for Energy Md.Ali Shabbier who returned from UAE met the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy and briefed about the conditions of the expatriates who were found to be staying illegally in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharja.
Sources said that the Chief Minister has directed Shabbier to submit a final report by Friday morning. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary, J Harinarayan was also in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs in this regard.
Since, the announcement of the amnesty, more than 8000 expatriates had arrived in Hyderabad directly and another 1500 via Mumbai. He said that the government is exploring the possibility of extending financial assistance for their return journey. Meanwhile, he said an exclusive job mela for all the expatriates who had come back would be held on September 16 in Nizamabad.
