Guntur, September 13, 2007Speaking to media on Thursday, the Superintended of Police, Mahesh Chanda Laddha said that the city crime police has unearthed the mystery behind the temple thefts that rocked the district recently and arrested four persons.
He said the police recovered six panchaloha idols, silver and gold ornaments all worth more than Rs.6 lakhs were also recovered. The gang stole silver and gold ornaments worth over Rs.40,000 from Shiva temple in Ankireddipalem in the district on July 28 and on August 2 they stole silver and gold ornaments worth Rs.48,000 from Saibaba temple in the same village.
The SP further said that they also decamped with panchaloha idols of Lord Sangameswara Swamy, Parvati Devi, Ganga Devi, Chandeeswarudu and a 40 kg brass temple in Ponnaluru mandal of Prakasam district on July 15.
