Venkat remanded to judicial custody

Family members could have tried to erase evidence

Hyderabad, September 12, 2007

Venkat, who is accused in the murder of his business partner Prashanth Reddy is remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days by the city court on Wednesday as no evidence emerged strengthening suspicion that dispute over sharing a land deal proceeds could be the motive behind the crime. CID officials culled out mobile phone records of Venkat and found numerous calls between the two on the ill fated Sunday.

It is believed that Prashath went to the residence of Venkat after he received a call at 2.30pm. The CID officials believe an argument may have ensured between the two and Prashant may have insisted on immediate payment of his share citing financial problems. According to sources, the both were inebriated condition and felt a scuffle between the two could have forced Venkat to open fire. When the CID officials visited the scene of offense, they have come to the conclusion that the crime scene was completely disturbed even before Prashat was shifted to a Corporate hospital. They also came to the conclusion that the family members of Venkat have erased the evidence.

The investigating agency is talking to several realtors who transacted business with Venkat and Prashath. The entire investigation is focused on the probable dispute between the duo. Forensic experts too are veering round the homicide view. The police are also planning to question the wife of Prashath - Vilasini and another woman Preeti who is claiming to have married Prashat a few months ago to assess the working relationship between the victim and the suspect. After the Court remanded Venkat to judicial custody, he was immediately shifted to the Cherlapally Central Prison. His lawyers are likely to file a bail petition on Thursday.
