PCC Chief Keshava Rao resignation accepted

Lobbying begins for the PCC Chief post

Hyderabad, September 11, 2007

The resignation of Keshava Rao, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief is accepted by the AICC high command on Tuesday. It may be recalled Keshava Rao offered to resign on Monday soon after a murder case was registered against his son K Venkata Rao. Keshava Rao met the Congress Party President Ms. Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday afternoon and explained the case relating to the mysterious death of a realtor at the residence of his son. He also told to Sonia Gandhi to step down as his conscience does not permit him to remain in the post for fear that it could result in allegations of trying to influence the case.

Speaking with the media after the meeting with Sonia Gandhi, he said that Ms. Sonia was appreciative of his decision and told him that his services would be used by the party elsewhere. The successor of him will be appointed within a week.

Lobbying has begun for the post of PCC president post. Sources say Senior Congress leaders V Hanumantha Rao and R Sambasiva Rao met Sonia Gandhi in this regard on Tuesday. Besides, these two leaders, N Yellaiah met Digvijay Singh. According to sources, Digvijay Singh reportedly said that there was no point in any one dashing to Delhi in the hope of being made for PCC president or influencing the decision. He said that the high command will appoint an efficient person who can work along with the Chief minister and other senior leaders.
